Need a logo or badge but you aren't an artist? AI can help!

I don't have a creative or artistic bone in my body, but maybe AI does? Lets give it a try and see how it performs when asked to create a logo or badge for your website or business. I will be using the blog name as the seed for the first prompt and then will be adjusting the prompts after the first image to fine tune and change the logo.  

The prompts and results:

ChatGPT - Prompt 1:

"Create a logo from the words Tech Guarder"

Results:

That is probably better than anything I could draw, but it needs a bit of colour. Let's send another prompt to fix that.

Prompt 2:

 

"Make the border of the shield red and the letters TG the colour #0013de" 

For reference the hex code #0013de is from the colour pallet:

ChatGPT tried and did manage to change the shield border to red but did not get the change of colour for the letters correct and instead changed the inner part of the shield and the horizontal lines to a blue shade. The blue however is not the colour from the pallet though.

It does look better with a bit of colour in but is still a bit bland and needs a bit of adjusting.

Gemini also managed to change the shield border to red but it's a pity the inner design of the shield was changed as well. The first circuit board track type design actually looked pretty good.

This actually looks quite good. Remember, I am by no means an artist, nor do I have a critical eye for blending colours and shapes to make great logo designs 😁

So lets try an AI that is specifically built for designing logos:

These are from Looka logo design but seem rather generic and boring.

Here is what OpenArt AI generated from the standard prompt I have been using:

 

And this is what OpenArt generated when I changed the prompt to "Create a logo from the words Tech Guarder. Make it colourful":

 

All of these attempts were made on the free versions of the AI models, where some AI's limit the amount of data that can be uploaded/downloaded and others use a credit type system. So for the free versions of ChatGPT and Gemini the system will limit you after a few attempt of image creation but will allow you to continue after 24 hours. For other AI´s that use credit based systems you will be forced to pay for a subscription after your free tokens run out.

So can AI help non artist create a great logo? Yes they can, you just need to enter better prompts than the one short line that I entered. The better more detailed descriptions of what you want in a logo will definitely improve the results that you get from any of these systems. The best would be is to sit down for a few minutes and make a couple of notes on what you would like to see in your logo. What style and colours are you looking for and a few hints on the shape and size of any possible image parts you might think of will definitely help in creating a great logo with AI.

Something like this would have been much better right from the start and would have gotten you much further than the prompts I was using above:

"Create a logo using the words Tech Guarder. The logo must have a shield with a red border with a circuit board type of design inside the shield border with lots of thin pcb traces in various colours. Overlay the Letters TG in the shield in deep blue. Make the background of the image a gun metal grey. Insert the tag line "Protecting Your Digital World" centred lower bottom of image in gold writing"

Everything I asked for in the prompt did make it onto the image and will cut down on the number of times that you need to request a change if you start with a detailed prompt. 

Another one from Leonardo AI using the original prompt:

This one is starting to look more like a logo. Maybe still a bit complicated for a logo but can definitely be used on a web page as an icon or badge.

Only thing is...logos are supposed to be clean and simple...something like this from Leonardo AI using the prompt "Make me a clean and simple logo with the letters "TG" for business use. Logo must be colourful and have a tag line "Protecting your digital world"."

As you can see the different AI's out now can help with a logo or badge design for your business. All of these took only a few seconds to create and best of all it was free. It probably took me longer to open the different websites and save the images than it did to paste the prompt and have the image generated.

So if you are looking for help with your logo give AI a bash. It might not get you all the way to your winning logo but it could give you the idea or sense of direction you needed to decide on a winner.
